Just Words
05/04/2008 - Pastor Dave Sharpes - Communication is one of the keys to healthy relationships both within and outside of the family. Whether verbal or non-verbal, words hold great power that can expand the potential of others or limit them in ways that scar - whether we always intend them too or not. The Bible says that the tongue wields amazing power. The writer of Proverbs says the tongue has the power of life and death. And James warns that being careless with our words does significant damage to the very people for whom Jesus gave His life.
Jesus said that the reality is that what comes out of our mouths is an indication of what’s really going on inside of our hearts. We need the same God who can forgive us for the misuse of our lips to cleanse our hearts and fill them continually with his grace and his mercy—so that with our tongues we can bless and honor Him and we can speak words that bless and build up others.
