God's Politics

02/24/2008 - Pastor Dave Sharpes - This message is a message of challenge and hope and is rooted in the heart of the teachings of Jesus as read in the Sermon on the Mount.  Is what we profess as Christians, truly being lived out and bringing to our world the manifestations of the Kingdom for which Jesus prayed?
I confess that it often appears that our understanding of God’s Kingdom is less founded upon Jesus and His teachings, and more often on the agenda and ideals of one particular political party or a narrow list of platform issues.  As evangelical Christians our social heritage is much broader (and deeper) and has clear ties to the moral conviction of living out our faith through caring for all of God’s creation.  Radical concepts like revival and social reformation are a part of what it means to be evangelical Christians.  Those who lived out a personal relationship with Jesus Christ became abolitionists, anti-slavery voices, leaders in women’s suffrage, and defenders of child labor laws.  To have a personal relationship with Christ was not a moment of decision, but an invitation into a life of bringing the Kingdom of God to our world.  Have we lost our way?
